City Mayor to Give Welcome Address
May 13, 2008

Mayor Jonas Cortez of Mandaue City will give the welcome address on May 17 at the “Concert for a Cause” featuring Filipino pop star and evangelist, Ray An Fuentes. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Mandaue has a list of about 20 people needing wheelchairs. Mayor Cortez will provide a bus to bring these persons and their families to the Convention Center to receive their chairs. Fifty to seventy-five chairs are expected to be given away at the concert that night.  

Wheelchair Team Meets the Press

Terry, Ray An, and Rhodora faced the press at an official press conference to raise awareness of disability and promote the wheelchair project and concert. Headlines the next day read “Groups to Organize Support Program for the Disabled”. Even before the wheelchair team arrived, they were a top story in one major newspaper and “applauded” for their work. Terry and Ray An also appeared on GMA television the next morning where Terry was interviewed for four minutes and Ray An sang. Terry is glad they did not ask him to sing.  

 
 

Press Conference Scheduled

Terry Dalrymple and Ray An Fuentes to be interviewed on Philippine Television

GMA television in Cebu has invited Michelle and Ray An to their studios on Monday, May 12. Ray An will sing one song, and Terry will be interviewed as promotion for the concert at the Cebu International Convention Center on May 17.

Modesto Team Commissioned

Pastor Rick Countryman introduced the wheelchair team to the Big Valley Community Church congregation in all three services this weekend. He led the congregation in prayer asking God to use the team to bring blessing to many.

Wheelchairs Clear Customs

The wheelchairs have cleared customs and have been transported to the HCDI  headquarters where they will be stored until the team from Modesto arrives on May 10 to begin assembling them for distribution.

Wheelchairs Arrive in Cebu City

The Free Wheelchair Mission reports that the shipment of 550 wheelchairs from China arrived in Cebu last week. HCDI Philippines reports that the containers will be released from customs today.

Pastors Launch "The Paralytic Project"
in Cebu City

35 people from 12 different churches gathered in Cebu on Monday to launch "The Paralytic Project" and to plan follow up activities for the "Concert for a Cause".  Pastors throughout the city are mobilizing their congregations and sister churches to be like the friends of the paralytic who carried the paralyzed man to Jesus for healing. Members will help to identify disabled persons who need wheelchairs and bring them to the "Concert for a Cause" on May 17 to receive their free chairs. The Gospel will be proclaimed through music and testimony, and people will be given an opportunity to put their trust in Christ.

Modesto Team Headed to the Philippines
May 8, 2008

The Modesto Team will arrive at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila on May 9, 2008. They will spend the night in Manila, and travel to Cebu the next morning

Wheelchair Distribution in Rural Areas
May 13-16, 2008
From May 13-16, the team from Modesto will distribute chairs in five different provinces of the Philippines to recipients who have been identified by HCDI and LifeWind health workers. The families of the disabled will be invited to participate in newly forming support groups, and to work together to find local solutions to the problems of their disabled friends and relatives. They will learn to work together to get disabled children in school, reduce stigma and shame by raising awareness of the dignity of the disabled, provide relief to each other as care givers, connect with government services, and to use local resources to make adaptive equipment.

Churches from the city of Cebu have mobilized to bring disabled persons and their families to the Cebu International Convention Center on the evening of May 17 to receive their free wheelchairs. They will enjoy a concert and hear testimony from Filipino Pop Star and evangelist, Ray An Fuentes. Recipients are being pre-qualified, and we expect to distribute about 200 of the 550 chairs on this night.

Ray An Fuentes will perform a second time on Sunday Evening, May 18, in Bacolod City. About 25 chairs will be distributed there.
